Costs of a Nanny

The average hourly rate of a nanny is $15 - $17 per hour for the South Island and $17 - $20 an hour for Wellington, however, we contribute some non incomes tested funding towards the nannies wages, which reduces the hourly rate considerably.

When you contact us, we can work out exactly what your family is entitled to.  We then produce a costings letter detailing how much you would need to pay each week (less our subsidies and other payments you are eligible for).

An example:

Smith Family have three children aged 6 months, 18 months and three years.

The family want a nanny from 9 - 5pm Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (27 hours per week).

27 hours per week x $16 an hour (nannies wage)   $432.00
8% holiday pay / ACC Levies / kiwisaver   $49.98
Less Our Family Contribution $45.00
Less ECE hours for 3 year old $74.52
Less WINZ Subsidy $171.36
Less Total Family Contribution and subsidies  $290.88

Actual cost each week to Smith Family is

$191.10

The Nanny Company is a chartered service and receives bulk funding from the government for the services it provides. We pass some of this funding onto families by way of a contribution towards their nannies wages (this is not income tested).

We also can access non income related funding for 3 & 4 year olds (known as ECE Hours). This funding is paid at $4.14 an hour for 20 hours per week, ($82.00 per week, per child eligible).

We can also access Work and Income NZ (WINZ Subsidies). If your combined income falls into the income level indicated you could be eligible for a subsidy.

Number of children aged under 16 years in your family

Gross combined weekly income in your household

1 child up to $1486

2 children up to $1,698

3 or more children up to $1,910

The subsidies range from $3.91 to $1.51 per hour, per child.

We can tell you what you are eligible for and answer any questions you may have about subsidies.
